2nd Annual Cat and Crow Community Hat Exchange: Friday, January 25 from 5-6 PM and follow-up on March 9 at 3 PM
     This was such a fun event last year; we are bringing it back because you can never have too many hats. You will get to meet new people, play with yarn you didn't buy, and maybe try a new technique or two. Bring a pattern, appropriate yarn, and your head measurement to put into a lunch sack. Then pick out a different hat project to knit or crochet for someone else; you won't know who your recipient is until we exchange finished hats in March!! (You must commit to finishing a hat by March 9th; but if you can't make it on that Saturday you can turn your finished hat in at the shop ahead of time.) FREE


Hand-Dyeing Workshop: Saturday March 2 from 9 AM- 1 PM

​   Learn several ways of dyeing yarn to get the effect you want.  We'll play with hand painting, kettle dyeing, and more.  You will also learn more about how colors work together and what a yarn will look like when it is knit.  $40 plus cost of yarn to dye.


Stranded Knitting: Wednesdays March 6 and 13 from 6:30- 8 PM

     In this class you will learn classic stranded knitting with 2 colors, using your choice from an assortment of beautiful patterns for stranded hats. You'll need to knit the ribbed brim before class starts, so we can get to the learning part right away! We will make a kit for you based on the pattern and colors that you choose.  $30 plus cost of kit (about $15) and pattern.


Intro to Brioche: Saturday March 9 from 10 AM- Noon
   The basic workings of this intriguing technique will be revealed. Brioche stitch yields a very cushy reversible fabric, which we will create in two colors.  $15; bring 2 colors of medium weight yarn, and needles (circular or double points) appropriate for that yarn. 


Prairie Fire Sweater KAL: Kick-off Saturday March 16 starting at 1 PM

    This versatile pattern (size from newborn to 4XL) worked in a cotton blend will become your favorite spring/summer sweater. Make it with short or long sleeves; most importantly make it with other knitters! FREE.


Basic Crochet: Tuesday March 19 from 6:00-8:00 PM

    Learn the basics of crochet and make a fun flower along the way! Bring some worsted weight smooth yarn and bring or buy a crochet hook. $20.


Open Dye Day: Saturday March 23 from 10 AM to 4 PM; first come, first served
   Would you like to play with dye? Want someone else to do the prep work and cleanup? Drop by The Cat and Crow back room today to dye a skein of yarn, a sock blank, or some roving. $10 (to dye up to 1 lb. of fiber). Yarn

and fiber to dye will be available to purchase.


Basic Hat: Wednesdays April 3 and 10 from 6:30- 8 PM

   Want to jump from scarves and dishcloths to so much more? In this class you will learn how to knit in the round on circular needles. We'll also cover reading patterns, stitch gauge, different hat brims, and different decreasing options to close up the top of your hat. $35 includes pattern.


Fix-It Master: Saturday, April 6 from 2- 4 PM

   You are the master of your knitting! Take this workshop and get more comfortable and confident fixing mistakes in stockinette and garter stitch. We'll use needles, a crochet hook, and fingers...whatever it takes to get rid of problems. $20 (bring smooth light color worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles to class).


Kid's Knitting: Saturdays April 6 and 13 from 10 AM- Noon

   Learn how to cast on, knit, and bind off while you make a fun bag, bracelet, or headband. This class is for kids 7 and up. $40 includes yarn and a set of needles.


Silk Scarf Dyeing: Saturday April 27 from 10- 11 AM OR 2- 3 PM

   Have fun and make a one-of-a-kind gift. No experience needed; just bring your imagination. You will be able to dye two scarves if you'd like. $10; there will be 2 sizes of silk scarf available to purchase and dye.


Knitted Wit Sock KAL: Kick-off Tuesday April 16 at 6:30 PM

   We have a fun bunch of colorways from Knitted Wit including the HerStory yarns, and we want to celebrate them! Pick a pattern (many fun ones!) from Knitted Wit friend Shannon Squire. She has several designs that break up pooling in variegated yarns and are a little bit more interesting than the basic socks we often knit. Join us on as many Tuesday nights as you can! FREE.

Magical Mosaic Shawl:  (3 hour class)
    Learn this fun and popular technique for knitting with 2 colors. It looks more complicated than it is! You only knit with 1 color in each row.  You'll learn new kinds of slipped stitches to create the intricate-looking texture of the shawl. Infant Hat Knit-a-long:​
​   Please consider joining us to help raise awareness of heart disease in children.  We'll be knitting preemie and newborn hats in red and donating them to the American Heart Association.  They are hoping to have enough hats for all babies born in February which is Heart Month. You'll need red washable cotton, wool, or acrylic and needles in 12" or 16" circular or double points. You can find patterns when you google Little Hats, Big Hearts Madison. We'll be here to help you along and feed you treats!

   You are the master of your knitting! Take this workshop and get more comfortable and confident fixing mistakes in stockinette and garter stitch. We'll use needles, a crochet hook, and fingers...whatever it takes to get rid of problems. $20 (bring smooth light color worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles to class.)

​No More Stinky Socks: (3 week class, 4.5 hours total)
   This is our beginning sock class. Learn how to knit socks from the cuff down. If you know how to knit in the round you will be ready for this fun class.  $45.

​    Learn the basics of entrelac in two colors and get started on a cute hat (Ashlar on Ravelry) in your choice of sizes. $30 includes pattern.

   In this class you will learn classic stranded knitting with two colors at a time, using the beautiful pattern, Basic Norwegian Star Hat.  You'll need to knit the ribbed brim before class starts, so we can get to the learning right away!  Kits for other two-color hats will also be available.  $30 plus the cost of a kit (about $15) and pattern.

Intro to Rigid-Heddle Weaving: (3 hour class)
​    This is a beginning weaving class.  You will learn how to warp a Cricket loom and weave a scarf. $30 for the class plus the cost of yarn (we'll have you pick something out when you sign up.) A Cricket loom can be rented for $20/month if you do not own one. This rental fee may be applied to the purchase of a loom in the future.
