Get "Shifty": Wednesdays, August 21 and 28 from 6:30- 8 PM

   Andrea Mowry's "Shift" series of patterns continues to be popular and we've got great samples of the cowl and shawl patterns. In this class, you will get to pick your pattern- hat, cowl, shawl, or sweater; and pick your yarn. Then we will go over mosaic knitting technique, increases, decreases, and some tips about the patterns. $30 plus cost of pattern and yarn if needed.


Intro to Brioche: Saturday, August 24 from 10 AM- Nonn
   The basic workings of this intriguing technique will be revealed. Brioche stitch yields a very cushy reversible fabric, which we will create in two colors.  $20; bring 2 colors of medium weight yarn, and needles appropriate for that yarn. 


Open Dye Day: Saturday, August 31 from 10 AM- 4 PM
   Would you like to play with dye? Want someone else to do the prep work and cleanup? Drop by The Cat and Crow back room today to dye a skein of yarn, a sock blank, or some roving. $10 (for each pound of fiber or up to 4 skeins). Yarn and fiber to dye will be available to purchase.


Stranded Knitting:​ Tuesdays, September 3 and 10 from 6:30- 8 PM 
   In this class you will learn classic stranded knitting with two colors at a time, using an assortment of beautiful patterns for stranded hats.  You'll need to knit the ribbed brim before class starts, so we can get to the learning right away! We can make a kit for you based on the pattern and colors you choose.  $30 plus the cost of a kit (about $15) and pattern.

Crochet for Knitters: Saturday, September 14 from 9 AM- Noon

​   Learn the basics of crochet and how you can add it to your knitting. There are some basic crochet stitches that can be used for casting on, sewing things together, and edgings. Bring some worsted weight smooth yarn and bring or borrow a crochet hook. If you have a piece of knitting to practice crocheting through, please bring that as well! $30.


Yoke Sweater KAL: Wednesdays, starting September 18 from 6:30- 8 PM

   Join us for a choose-your-own-adventure sweater! Yoke sweaters are so fun and can be relatively quick, too. Check out these designers that have several patterns that would work: Caitlin Hunter, Kate Davies, Mary Jane Mucklestone, and Jennifer Steingass. Also, you could knit the Bergitte Cardigan which we have a sample of in the shop. We will help you through AND you get a discount on yarn and needles for your KAL project. FREE.


Knitted Knochers KAL: Saturday, September 28 kick-off and class 10 AM- Noon

   Our customer, Rebecca, was asked to make a set of these for a friend and found out how much need there is for them. Knitted Knockers are special handmade breast protheses for women who have undergone mastectomies or other procedures to the breast. Traditional breast prosthetics are usually expensive, heavy, sweaty, and uncomfortable. Knitted Knockers are soft, comfortable, beautiful and when placed in a regular bra they take the shape and feel of a real breast. During the kick-off for this project you can learn and get comfortable with knitting on double-pointed needles; get tips on the pattern and customization; and purchase supplies at a 20% discount. We'll have treats for you as well! So come and join us and donate some time to a great cause. We'll be collection the Knockers when you finish. FREE.


Basic Hat: Tuesdays, October 8 and 15 from 6:30- 8 PM

​   Want to jump from scarves and dishcloths to so much more? In this class you will learn how to knit in the round on circular needles. We'll also cover reading patterns, stitch gauge, different hat cuffs, and different decreasing options to close up the top of your hat. $35 includes pattern.


​Mini-World Needle Felting: Saturday, October 12 from 9 AM- Noon

   Make a scene of your choosing small enough to fit in a teacup! We'll provide the tools, fiber, and know-how. You can bring a fancy teacup or we'll provide a simple glass. $35 includes pattern.


Madtown Yarn Shop Hop: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday October 18- 20

(regular hours Fri/Sat and 10 AM- 4 PM Sunday)

​   This will be a great event all around the Madison area. We'll have sales, specials, and door prizes. You'll also be able to pick up a stamp-card at any of the shops that you fill and turn in to your last shop to get in the drawing for 1 of several prize baskets depending on how many shops you visit!


Scaredy Steeks Finishing Class: Wednesday, October 23 from 6- 8 PM

   Want some help finishing your yoke sweater? Melissa will bring her sewing machine to the shop and help get your steek sewn and cut. We may add a 2nd night depending on how many people sign up. Of course, Melissa will share finishing tips and tricks along the way! $15.

Kid's Knitting: (2 sessions of 2 hours)
   Learn how to cast on, knit, and bind off while you make a fun bag, bracelet, or headband. This class is for kids 7 and up. $40 includes yarn and a set of needles.


​​Kid's Tye-Dye: (1 session, 1.5 hours)
   A great way to have some fun with color. Dye a silk scarf, socks, or a bright t-shirt. When you sign up, we will give you info on items you can choose to dye. $15 plus the cost of the items to dye (or bring your own.) Register by June 29th to allow time for ordering t-shirts, etc.


Infant Hat Knit-a-long:​
​   Please consider joining us to help raise awareness of heart disease in children.  We'll be knitting preemie and newborn hats in red and donating them to the American Heart Association.  They are hoping to have enough hats for all babies born in February which is Heart Month. You'll need red washable cotton, wool, or acrylic and needles in 12" or 16" circular or double points. You can find patterns when you google Little Hats, Big Hearts Madison. We'll be here to help you along and feed you treats!

    Learn the basics of crochet and make a fun flower along the way!  Bring some worsted weight smooth yarn and bring or borrow a crochet hook.  $30


Beginning Knitting: (3 week class 4.5 hours total)
   Learn how to knit, purl, cast on, and bind off while you make a basket-weave scarf. $45 includes pattern and practice yarn.

 

Fix-It Master: (2 hour class)
   You are the master of your knitting! Take this workshop and get more comfortable and confident fixing mistakes in stockinette and garter stitch. We'll use needles, a crochet hook, and fingers...whatever it takes to get rid of problems. $20 (bring smooth light color worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles to class.)

​No More Stinky Socks: (3 week class, 4.5 hours total)
   This is our beginning sock class. Learn how to knit socks from the cuff down. If you know how to knit in the round you will be ready for this fun class.  $45.


Hand-Dyeing Workshop: (4 hour workshop usually on a Saturday)
​   Learn several ways of dyeing yarn to get the effect you want.  We'll play with hand painting, kettle dyeing, and more.  You will also learn more about how colors work together and what a yarn will look like when it is knit.  $40 plus cost of yarn to dye.

​Entrelac Workshop:
​    Learn the basics of entrelac in two colors and get started on a cute hat (Ashlar on Ravelry) in your choice of sizes. $30 includes pattern.

Intro to Rigid-Heddle Weaving: (3 hour class)
​    This is a beginning weaving class.  You will learn how to warp a Cricket loom and weave a scarf. $30 for the class plus the cost of yarn (we'll have you pick something out when you sign up.) A Cricket loom can be rented for $20/month if you do not own one. This rental fee may be applied to the purchase of a loom in the future.
